Low Manipulation for Increased Length Retention - at least That's the Plan!

Hey There!
*Air Drying and Finger Detangled*

So.... ever since I trimmed I've been tempted to check if its grown back - overnight, and of course every time I check I find I am the same length I was the day before! DUH!

Seriously? Why do we torture ourselves like this? lol!

I finally came to terms with the very same thing I preach - Patience is key!

So I got back to first principles:

Wash Day Experience! and Obama Reach Jamdown! :-)

Hey There!

How are you guys? I hope that you had a great Easter Holiday and/or are having a great Passover :-)
I was workin unfortunately through the ENTIRE Easter Holiday...
 #thatslife #lifesnotfairsometimes #turningnegativesintopositivessincejanuary2015
#upwardmobility!
LOL

So as usual, when I'm super busy, my wash day stretches over a 2-3 day span if I'm on call. I know I will not get a 4 hour span to pamper it the way I would want to because I am always weary my phone will ring and I'll have to drop what I'm doing and go.

So Wash Day Day 1:

16 weeks Post Relaxer! Yayness!

Hey There Girlies!

It's been ages I know, I've been Uber uber busy, hopefully my efforts will be fruitful, :-D

Just an update:
I'm currently 16 weeks and 2 day post relaxer!!!!
Yay!
Honestly, I was really itching to just Telax it yesterday #thefrustrationwasreal
but I held off because I think I ought to amp up my deep conditioning sessions (Moisture + Protein) before I Texlax.
Also, I actually like my new growth.... most times, lol, so I'm a lil' sad to see it go so to speak,
We will see...

I have been on call for what feels like FOREVER, so I haven't had a chance to put my hair back in plaits for almost a week now
To protect my ends (a la Jeni from Just Grow Already)
I did a faux bun for work this past week:

Not bad, my ends were out of the way so it was great in terms of protecting them from the elements and my clothing
as well as reducing my anxiety over the stark contrast between my thick texlaxed hair + natural roots and my relaxed ends (looking a lil thinner than I like)

I'm hoping to do a deep treatment tomorrow - public Holiday here in BVI, and I'm considering doing a weave for 2-3weeks....to give myself and my hair a break while I study, CONSIDERING! Eeps!

How are ya'll relaxer stretches going?

I'd love to hear from ya!

XoXo,
Rachie :-D

Twist Take-down - Big Hair :-)

Heya, Happy Sunday!
I'm working this weekend, but I had to take down the twists to redo them, I try to not go longer than 10 days because:
(1) My hair tangles at the line of demarcation soon after this time period
(2) I need to deep condition AT LEAST once a week to keep my hair happy.... it's still recovering form December 2014, lol.

With LENGTH RETENTION in mind I was -well I tried for the most part - very very GENTLE with my strands on taking down the twists, to keep BREAKAGE at a MINIMUM.

(1) I Finger Detangled first
(2) Then used my wide toothed comb
(3) Then the Denman Brush

Thursday Morning Babble - A Random Pick-Me-Up! :-)

Hey There Guys!

So its Thursday, "the its-not-quite-friday-day" and Lord knows I wasn't feeling the work vibe at all today. But so it go! Gotta get up and get working!

I threw my hair into a quick loose bun, and headed to work!
So, I decided I'd share a pic or 2 of how I wore my hair to work today and on a daily basis with the twists in:

Deep Conditioning in Braids - Listening to my hair!!!

Hey There Guys!
I just wanted to share a little something I noticed about my hair this weekend – Yes, I’m still learning, after all this time…

Turns out my hair Loves Deep Conditioning more often than I normally do it! At least of late it does – as in more than twice a week?!
Are you kidding?
#whohastimeforthat? Lol!

HOW I FOUND OUT: Okay, so on Saturday and Sunday I went diving, Yayness!

So I prepped my hair by putting it in braids with a twist for the last 1/3 of each section that I braided – I get less tangles this way...

"Wash Day" - Dry Deep Conditioning in Braids/Twists :-)

Hey There Guys!

So earlier this week, Monday, I decided to do a Dry Deep Conditioning Session, after which I decided that I didn't like that my braids no longer looked very neat, so I undid them and put them in twists,
This took me 4 hours!!! Crazy! My poor back and shoulders, le sigh LOL!

Okay so, Dry deep conditioning was pretty simple:

Weekend Wash Day in Braids!

Hey There Guys!

So on Friday night I decided to Wash and Deep Condition because I'm on call for the weekend and I wanted to get it out of the way before Saturday morning! I didn't want any surprises mid-treatments LOL.

So all of you know by now that I'm currently "rockin" braids, and I plan to for the next few months, as part of the "REGAIN LENGTH AND THICKNESS" Campaign
:-D
I did everything with the braids intact - to cut down on manipulation and thus reduce chances of breakage...

Hair Care Regimen for 2015 - Keepin' it Super Simple in Braids!

Hey There Guys!
Is it me or is the New Year always full of to do lists,
and lists of to-do lists,
finding out that some of your lists are a bit long.....
so you revise the lists again! Whew!
I don't think I'm alone in this....right? I hope not... Back me up here guys! LOL!

Anyhow, I have decided to try to keep my CORE Hair Care Regimen simple and easy to stick to!

My Ultimate Goals: LENGTH RETENTION + GROWTH
As you know from my previous post that I am currently protective styling with Plaits... oh so exciting, lol
*Pic taken this week*
Okay so no it's not (I'm a tad bit sad at the current 'thinner' state of my hair, and maybe a bit of "trimmers remorse" - if there's such a thing, ah well it needed to be done!)
BUT
it will reduce the amount of time that I have to spend on my hair on a regular basis
AND
I can still give my hair the TLC it needs - it needs a lot, very demanding this one, LOL

Happy New Year!...Just Married! :-)

Hey There Guys!!!
 ...
HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
I hope you all had a safe and happy holiday and that the new year brings you all the joy, happiness and prosperity you desire
Big Hugz!

Where have I been you ask?
I got married to my best friend in the whole world on December 13th 2014 in my home town Montego Bay Jamaica! Yayness!

It was a lovely very small & intimate gathering of family and dear friends,
But don't let "small and intimate" fool you, it was nuff work and stress to prepare for so yeppers peppers I definitely wasn't able to blog at that time.
I would like to share a few pics though!

Bridal Shower...
*My lovely bridesmaids :-) Who are also on hair journeys, Woot woot!

Wash Day! :-) Back to Braids!

Hey There Guys!

Wash Day this last weekend wasn't bad, per say,
I managed to do a much needed protein treatment,
Yay! - that's the sound my hair made post wash, Lol!
But I aint gonna lie, I was TIRED through the whole thing.
But what you gonna do?
The hair needs what the hair needs! So you've just got to soldier on!

Wash Day? :-)

Hey There Guys!

My mid-week "Wash Day" wasn't a Wash Day really it quickly became a Dry Deep Conditioning Session.
As you know, I Deep Condition twice a week & often times one of these sessions is a "Dry Deep Conditioning Session"
I do these Sessions so that I can give my hair the moisture it needs even when I am uber busy.
I have been very very very busy of late, I feel like a broken record saying this, but its true!
My hair doesn't care about my plight though,
LOL,
Not at all!
She's just like:"Ye, dat nice, where's the moisture though? You Forgot?! Okay, Well allow me to fix your business Rach :-)" #breakage
LOL

So! back to Wash Day/Dry Deep Conditioning Quickie:

After The Last Wash Day I had put my hair in Plaits with a Scarf for work:

I grew tired of it after a single day so I did a Braid-Out which I eventually put into a Bun the Following Day:

Tuesday Night I was Not feeling that braid out much at all, and it felt a little on the dry side - AC at work is really drying some days,

So I opted for Dry Deep Conditioning:
  • I wet my hands and ran them along my hair in 4 sections to VERY LIGHTLY Moisten the hair but not to the point where it was wet.
  • I proceeded to Finger Detangle each section, then Detangled each section with a Denman Brush.
  • Profectiv Mega Growth Daily Leave-In Strengthener was applied to each section and plaited
  • Plastic cap, then under the dryer for 15 mins.
  • Sealed with Sweet Almond Oil + Castor Oil, because I'm out of Grapeseed Oil! :-(
  • Left cap off and allowed to Air dry
  • I then separated each plait and then combed it out with a wide toothed comb:
Very little hair came out, Yayness! :-)
  • I then put on a head band and put my hair in a bun and went to work!

Yeppers so that's about it! Nothing big and exciting, I'll be doing a regular wash day with a moisturizing shampoo on Saturday or Sunday

I've joined the 30 Days Without Heat Challenge!
I'll let you guys know how that's going and what my plans are in a post coming soon :-)
Feel free to join along, just CLICK HERE

Rachie :-)

Rachie's Regimen Deconstructed: My Basic Hair Care Regimen :-)

Hey There Guys!

Here we are on Part 3 of the "Hair Typing Series".

In Part 1 - We broke down the different components of Hair Type
To re-read Part 1 CLICK HERE

In Part 2 - We then discussed how different aspects of a Basic Hair Care Regimen are important with regards to the different components of Hair Type
To re-read Part 2(a) CLICK HERE
To re-read Part 2(b) CLICK HERE

Now in Part 3, we will cover the following:
  • Rachie's Hair Care Regimen Deconstructed - My BASIC Hair Care Regimen
  • Rachie's Staple Products
  • Does My Hair Type Determine How Long My Hair Will Grow?
Rachie's Hair Care Regimen Deconstructed
It just so happens that I have every component of hair typing that makes one prone to easy tangling knots and breakage,
say it with me people, sigh!
Because of this I err on the side of caution MOST TIMES when it comes to my hair care regimen. It was very annoying at first, as in, like, can't I just go to bed normal & just wake up with fabulous hair? Can't it just moisturize itself sometimes?!
LOL!
Anyhow, I soon recognized that there was no short cut, and that these things were what my hair NEEDED, so I kept at "My Regimen/Plan", and eventually it became habit.

Can I tell you, typing up this Updated Regimen has really got me thinking about the things I've slacked off on here and there over the weeks,
and reminded me that I need to get back in the game!
I TRIED MY BEST to make it as CONCISE as Possible,
Forgive me if it still ended up being a bit long!
Anyhow, here we go...

My Co-Wash Wash Day! :-)

Hey There Guys!
This is a really quick Wash Day Post/Check-In.
We are (well I am) interrupting the Hair Typing Series to bring you a realllly quick Wash day post!
Worry not, Part 3 is on its way very soon!
*wink, wink*
This past weekend, I was all set to do a proper co-wash (no shampoo because my hair was feeling a tad dry), followed by my Tea Rinse, Moisturizing Deep Conditioning, ACV Rinse, Air-Dry and Twist hair with a home-made flaxseed gel recipe that I've been wanting to try a la Naptural85 and my friend Shana...
Yeah, so that was the plan but then I realized, shoot I had work that weekend! So I'd just have to do a make shift wash session with the pockets of free time that I had...
